Next From Software Game is Already in Development – Report

A new rumour suggests that From Software has been working on an unannounced game since January 2022. This is according to the LinkedIn profile of an employee who listed their current projects. The acclaimed studio is currently busy with its next major game, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, as well as an expansion for Elden Ring titled Shadow of the Erdtree. However, it seems like more games are on the way from the developer.

As spotted by The Game Spoof, From Software developer Kennet Chan recently updated their LinkedIn profile with an untitled game that has been in development since early last year. Chan is the producer and co-director on Armored Core VI but also served as Elden Ring‘s lead game designer. This has ignited speculation that From Software could already be working on an Elden Ring sequel, though it seems unlikely according to director Hidetaka Miyazaki.

During a previous interview, Miyazaki stated that Elden Ring‘s massive sales and overall success wouldn’t “really affect what we are going to create next.” It’s unlikely that Chan’s unannounced project is Elden Ring 2, or even another Soulslike for that matter, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the developer is cooking next.

While From Software coined and pioneered the Soulslike sub-genre, it seems like the studio wants to stretch its arms and explore other styles of gameplay too. Armored Core VI, for example, will not utilise any Soulslike RPG mechanics and will instead return to the franchise’s mech-focused action and fast-paced combat. A report claims that Armored Core VI will also release before Elden Ring‘s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion this year, possibly aiming for a September or October release.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is currently in development for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
