The next project from Elden Ring and Bloodborne developer From Software reportedly has a codename simply going by ‘CL’, according to a new rumour. It has been several months since the studio released the long-awaited Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring and even longer since its last game release, 2023’s Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon. Fans speculate that a reveal for the developer’s next game is overdue.
The rumour originates from known leaker Kurakasis, who seems to have a decent track record of accurate industry leaks and insider information. The leaker recently stated on X that From Software had been working on the project with the codename ‘CL’ before the release of Elden Ring‘s expansion. Kurakasis added that they haven’t found any information that could suggest ‘CL’ is linked to Elden Ring as the codename for that game was ‘GR’ (or Great Rune), meaning ‘CL’ is likely a new, unannounced title from the studio.
Fans initially suspected that it could be related to Armored Core 6, potentially new DLC for the game, though Kurakasis clarified that the codename for the mech title was ‘FNR’. Whatever this new mystery project is, it’s probably not related to either Elden Ring or Armored Core, suggesting that it could be a new IP or sequel to one of From Software’s games.
Something that FromSoftware was working on before the release of the Elden Ring DLC had the codename CL. I haven’t found any info suggesting that the Elden Ring DLC has a different codename than the base game (GR – Great Rune), so it’s possible that CL is a new FromSoftware game.

Back in October 2023, From Software began hiring new employees for multiple new projects. Earlier this year, From Software said a sequel to Elden Ring was still a possibility, though there’s also a chance that director Hidetaka Miyazaki might step back from directing in the future to let new talent flourish at the studio.
