Following a leak yesterday, Sony has confirmed that a new PlayStation State of Play showcase will take place this week Wednesday, 31 January 2024. Sony also announced that the show will contain a closer look at 15+ games coming to PS5 and PS VR2 this year and beyond and will run for about 40 minutes. This includes new trailers for Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade and more titles.
The next PlayStation State of Play event will be broadcast on 31 January at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm GMT or 12am (midnight) CAT for South Africans on 1 February. A recent PlayStation blog post already set some expectations for the showcase as it will feature closer looks at the upcoming open-world action game, Rise of the Ronin from Team Ninja and a new look at Stellar Blade (hopefully with a release date attached).

PlayStation Studios head Hermen Hulst stated:
“The broadcast will be over 40 minutes long, and feature guest appearances from some of the most talented minds in gaming. Among many other updates, we’ll feature extended looks at Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin, two great games coming to PS5 this year. And we’ll give you a new look at other titles coming to PS5 and PS VR2 in 2024 and beyond.”
State of Play shows have an inconsistent history. Most fans prefer to wait for PlayStation’s bigger shows as State of Play events tend to be smaller and mostly uneventful. That might change with the next State of Play if a recent leak is to be believed.
While it’s easy to dismiss many event leaks, this one is worth paying attention to. It comes from XboxEra podcast host Shpeshal Nick, who claims that the new PlayStation State of Play will not only feature Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade but also new trailers for Death Stranding 2, Silent Hill 2, Judas, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, a new Metro game and a potential remake/remaster of Sonic Generations. Nick has a better track record of industry leaks than most leakers who claim to have lists of event announcements, though take it with a pinch of salt anyway.
Don’t miss the next PlayStation State of Play showcase tomorrow.
