Last night during the PlayStation State of Play event, Sony announced that a dedicated State of Play showcase will take place in July that’s focused entirely on Ghost of Yotei, the upcoming PS5 action/adventure title from Sucker Punch Productions and sequel to Ghost of Tsushima. The showcase will offer a deep dive into the gameplay ahead of the game’s release on 2 October.
Ghost of Yotei is a sequel to 2020’s Ghost of Tsushima and takes place in the region of Ezo, 329 years after the events of its predecessor. New protagonist and ronin Atsu sets off on a path of revenge against a group of masked outlaws known as the Yotei Six (more on the villains right here). The upcoming State of Play will give players “an extended look at new and evolved gameplay mechanics, including exploration, combat, and much more.”
The description of the Yotei Six reads:
“Sixteen years ago in the heart of Ezo (called Hokkaido in present day), a gang of outlaws known as the Yōtei Six took everything from Atsu. They killed her family and left her for dead, pinned to a burning ginkgo tree outside her home. But Atsu survived. She learned to fight, to kill, and to hunt, and after years away she has returned to her home with a list of six names: The Snake, The Oni, The Kitsune, The Spider, The Dragon, and Lord Saito.”
Atsu will be voiced by Erika Ishii in the English dub and Fairouz Ai in the Japanese dub (best known for voicing Jolyne Cujoh in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean and Power in Chainsaw Man). Co-directors Nate Fox and Jason Connell, who also worked on the first game, will return to helm the sequel.
Ghost of Yotei launches on 2 October 2025 exclusively for PS5. Watch the State of Play trailer below:
