Details on the next Tomb Raider game leaked over the weekend. The report comes from a game script used to cast the game’s actors and details some of the gameplay elements and story points for the project. According to the script, the next Tomb Raider game is reportedly developing under the codename “Project Jawbreaker”. The game is described as an “action-adventure game set in the modern-day world rocked by a mysterious cataclysm”.
The script specifically details the new Lara Croft in this new Tomb Raider game. According to the casting notes, the game will feature an “authentic British” Lara Croft in her mid-30s. The prototype for the character is compared to the likes of Emily Blunt or Rosamund Pike. The role will reportedly feature “romantic scenes with another female character”.

We have already covered the new Lara Croft character after Meagan Marie confirmed a so-called more “mature” Lara appearing in the next game. However, this leak has all but confirmed the statement which we heard last year already. According to the acting role, the new Lara is described as being “at the top of her game. The script says:
Gone are the days of the young, inexperienced women dealing with matters of legacy and familial reckoning. Lara has let go of her childhood and fully embraced the life of an adventurer… her legendary career has been lauded and printed in tabloids, tall tales of adventure that have inspired a new generation of tomb raiders to seek their fortunes in the world.
With this new phase of her life, Lara fully accepts her place among the ruins. For many years Lara plunged the depths of forgotten places, played cat and mouse with many nefarious opponents, and worked to uncover, preserve, and protect the lost secrets of the world, less they fall into the wrong hands.”
The script details a new element in the series which would see multiple Tomb Raiders appear in the story and this will tie into the overall gameplay. These new Tomb Raiders will have speaking roles and include characters named Devendra and Tanvi.
“As the years have passed, Lara has become lonely at the top. The beginning of this next chapter presents Lara with a quintessentially adult problem: facing something too big to handle alone.
On this new adventure, Lara will encounter a challenge she can only overcome with a team at her side. Collaboration is foreign to her: she’s always succeeded alone, so in this situation she’s a fish out of water.”
Crystal Dynamics confirmed earlier this year that the new Tomb Raider was being worked on at the studio. The development is taking place in Unreal Engine 5. The studio says the next game will “unify” the timelines in Core Design’s original Tomb Raider games and its own reboot of the trilogy. However, Crystal Dynamics confirmed that the game was still in early development and we should not expect it any time soon. The studio has since been acquired by Embracer Group which has most likely delayed the development of the new Tomb Raider even further.
