The first trailer for the anime adaptation of NieR Automata, the acclaimed JRPG from Platinum Games, has finally been released online. The trailer offers us a first glimpse at the amazing visuals being crafted by Sword Art Online studio A-1 Pictures as well as a release date.
The anime adaptation seems to be sticking faithfully to the video game as scenes from the first official teaser trailer show scenes lifted directly out of the source material. The high-quality animation and standout visuals are also on full display here, showing that A-1 Pictures were the right studio for the job.
MORE NIER AUTOMATA – NieR Automata Anime Announced From Sword Art Online Studio
The anime adaptation of NieR Automata (now officially titled NieR Automata Ver 1.1a) was first announced back in February this year, promising a retelling of the video game in a visual medium. Since this is just a teaser trailer, we can probably expect another to roll out soon. In addition to the new trailer, we also got a release date of January 2023.
The official plot description for the NieR Automata video game on Steam reads:
“NieR: Automata tells the story of androids 2B, 9S and A2 and their battle to reclaim the machine-driven dystopia overrun by powerful machines. Humanity has been driven from the Earth by mechanical beings from another world. In a final effort to take back the planet, the human resistance sends a force of android soldiers to destroy the invaders. Now, a war between machines and androids rages on… A war that could soon unveil a long-forgotten truth of the world.”
The anime will be directed by Ryoji Masuya, best known as the director of Blend S. Masuya spoke a bit about the faithfulness of the anime adaptation, stating, “The game movies themselves are very beautiful and complete as is, so there was a part of me that didn’t want to change it up that much. So it’s not exactly porting it into anime plus filling in the gaps so to say, but to get it close to the movie scenes including all the places where we made changes…”
