Nintendo Announces Gen 9 Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Nintendo has announced Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet, the 9th generation of Pokemon games. Along with a whole new region to explore, Pokemon Scalet and Violet will also come with three new starters in the form of a cat, a baby crocodile and a duck.

The announcement came as a surprise especially given that this entry in the series is being developed by Game Freak who just released Pokemon Legends: Arceus last month. In addition, the last generation of Pokemon in Sword and Shield was released only two years ago.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is set in a Mediterranean-inspired coastal countryside area. Nintendo has yet to share which region inspired the creation of this map but it looks to be a European island.

By the look of things, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will follow the same open-world gameplay as Legends: Arceus. This means players will get to explore large open hubs, sneak around and catch all sorts of Pokemon both new and old.

Speaking of the new Pokemon, the three starters have also been named. The cat starter called Sprigatito is a grass type, the crocodile Fuecoco is a fire type and Quaxly is the duck water type.
