Nintendo might be working on its unannounced Switch successor but the company isn’t wasting time releasing new OLED variants of the current console. The latest is a new Nintendo Switch OLED: Mario Red Edition which is set to launch in October ahead of the release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
The new Limited Edition Nintendo Switch OLED: Mario Red Edition will be released on 6 October and you’ll be able to pre-order it starting today at select retailers. While it is a Mario Red console, it actually isn’t affiliated with the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder whatsoever. It doesn’t have a game code or any design that ties into the upcoming platformer. This is more Nintendo’s tribute to Mario which coincidently launches around the same time.

The console is red…. very red actually. It features a Mario Red dock, Joy-Cons and Switch OLED. There are also subtle Mario decals around the unit including a Mario silhouette on the back and hidden coins under the back plate. Sort of to represent a dungeon – it is a great idea even if no one sees it.
Nintendo shared a closer look at the actual Switch OLED unit itself. But it looks like it just features a red shell. There are no Mario decals on the back at all. However, the red back shell and red Joy-Cons do blend nicely together. If anything, this Switch is definitely a lot more subtle than the recent Legend of Zelda Switch OLED and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet OLED.
No word yet on a local launch for this model. I will share more information when it arrives. Find out more about the console on the official Nintendo site here.
