Nintendo is running a playtest on its Nintendo Switch Online service for an unknown program. The gaming giant, who recently debuted its latest tech in the form of a Nintendo alarm clock, announced the playtest on social media.
The announcement didn’t reveal anything related to what this feature could be, only that users can sign up if they are in certain countries and have an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. Nintendo says the playtest is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Unfortunately, the playtest isn’t available in South Africa. It is only being conducted in Japan, the US, the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain. The test is expected to run from 23 October to 5 November. During this time, those who were granted access will be able to test out whatever feature this is.
The sign-up page doesn’t say much either. So at the moment, players are simply guessing what it could all be about. Keep in mind that this is the first time Nintendo has hosted something like this. Usually, there are betas and demos available on the platform but they are linked to a game. This test seems to be directly related to a Nintendo Account feature.
Perhaps Nintendo is playtesting account migration from the current Switch Online to whatever Switch 2 Online service it has been working on for its new console. The company has been quite vocal in the past about how “seamless” it wants the migration process to be for existing Nintendo Account owners when moving to the next-gen Nintendo device. A seamless move would require a lot of testing to ensure it all runs smoothly.
We will likely find out what this playtest is about closer to the time or perhaps during the test. The limit for the test is currently 10,000. There’s also no mention of an NDA so someone will definitely spill the beans.
