A new Nintendo Direct showcase is reportedly scheduled to take place next month that will apparently focus on Switch 1 games rather than anything new for the recently announced Nintendo Switch 2. This shouldn’t be confused with the Switch 2 direct which was officially announced by Nintendo to take place on 2 April.
The report comes from leaker and insider NateTheHate who has been accurate in their leaks regarding the Switch 2 so far. According to the leaker, Nintendo is planning another Direct showcase next month that will focus on a slate of Switch 1 games. Since Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backward compatible with the original console, it’s very likely that the games shown at this new Direct will also be playable on the next-gen hardware.
Nintendo has a busy few months ahead. Apart from the rumoured Nintendo Direct taking place next month, the company is also rumoured to host the next Pokemon Presents showcase on Pokemon Day, which is 27 February. According to reports, there won’t be any next-gen exclusive Pokemon titles shown off at this event.
Fans can probably expect developer Game Freak to show off Pokemon Legends Z-A, a spin-off title from the studio’s mainline Pokemon games and the next major release in the series. The release date for the spin-off was also apparently leaked ahead of the show.
In related news, Nintendo has bolstered its supply chain to sell at least 20 million Switch 2 units in its first year, avoiding the issues of stock unavailability and scalpers. Make sure you also check out when you can test the Switch 2 via a hands-on session. However, this only applies to certain regions. Unfortunately, there aren’t any sessions being planned for the African continent so South African fans will probably have to wait until the console’s launch to actually get some hands-on time with it.
