Nintendo Direct Partner Event Shows Epic Mickey, Grounded and More

Nintendo recently held a Direct Partner showcase which showed a handful of third-party games coming to Nintendo Switch this year. Some of the biggest announcements included a remaster of Epic Mickey titled Epic Mickey Rebrushed, a Star Wars Battlefront collection, a new Super Monkey Ball game and Obsidian Entertainment’s Grounded, which is the first former Xbox exclusive confirmed for other platforms.

The Nintendo Direct Partner showcase featured a number of reveals and new announcements from third-party publishers spread across almost 25 minutes. The classic platformer Epic Mickey will be remastered for Nintendo Switch, which is great news for those who have a bit of nostalgia for the games. Nintendo also revealed a remastered bundle for the original critically acclaimed Star Wars Battlefront game and its sequel from Tomb Raider I-III Remastered developer Aspyr.

Grounded will be launching on Nintendo Switch on 16 April while Obsidian’s other RPG, Pentiment, will hit the Nintendo eShop tomorrow. Grounded will feature cross-platform online co-op across Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch.

Other announcements include the Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance expansion, South Park: Snow Day, Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream, GUNDAM Breaker 4 and Super Monkey Ball: Banana Rumble, which will be available for Switch on 25 June.

A number of classic Rare games have shadow-dropped on Nintendo Switch Online including RC Pro-AM (NES), Snake Rattle ‘n’ Roll (NES), Killer Instinct (SNES), Battletoads in Battlemaniacs (SNES), and Blast Corps (N64). All titles are available today if you have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscription.

The showcase closed off with a look at a new Endless Ocean game titled Endless Ocean Luminous. The original scuba diving game launched on the Wii in 2007, though Luminous is going bigger as it allows up to 30 players to explore the oceans together, discover over 500 species of marine life, swim with whales and much more. The game is expected to release on 2 May 2024.
