Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 console will include over one hundred additional default profile pictures compared to the first Switch.
The news comes from the Nintendo Today! News App, which isn’t available in South Africa, unfortunately. The app shared an update on the Switch 2 profile and account manager page and gave users a closer look at some of the default icons they can use when editing or creating their profile.
Nintendo confirmed that while the original Switch has 147 icons to choose from, the Switch 2 now has 258 profile pictures that span dozens of games and franchises. Users can select characters from various Mario games, including the classics. There are Pikmin, Metroid, Kirby, Fire Emblem, and best of all, every starter Pokémon from every past generation now has its own icon.
We don’t know yet whether or not the Switch 2 will carry over the current console’s icon-making system. The existing console gives users the ability to purchase backgrounds, icons, and emblems using coins they rack up by completing tasks on the console, such as playing games and trying out demos. This system kind of replaces the default icon selection and makes the available icons quite pointless.
Should Nintendo carry over the creator mode, then you’ll not only have the ability to create your own icons but also choose from these 258 new ones.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to launch globally on 5 June. You can also catch up on our South African pre-order guide for the console here along with all the confirmed game launches coming your way at launch and after launch here.
[Switch 2]The console will have 258 default profile icons, nearly double that of the Switch 1 (which has 147).
