Nintendo has fleshed out the Switch 2 console and confirmed all the features we had guessed the console had up to this point. The company revealed the console, controller features, screen details, and more.
First off, Nintendo says the screen on the Switch 2 is now a 7.9-inch 1080p display. It is LCD and supports HDR. It also has 120Hz support for supported games. The new Joy-Cons, of course, connect magnetically to the console. Nintendo says the controllers have an incredibly strong magnetic clasp that cannot be detached unless you press the eject button on the back side of the Joy-Con.
Almost everything on the Switch 2 is bigger. Nintendo confirmed that the joysticks on the Joy-Cons are now bigger, and the SL/SR buttons too. The console has improved speakers and 3D audio support with and without headphones. It also has an included microphone and two USB-C ports. Nintendo says the top port can be used to charge the console and use the webcam, which is sold separately.
The Nintendo Switch 2 uses a new MicroSD Express storage format, which is much faster than the original MicroSD. The company confirmed that older MicroSD cards are not compatible with the new console. However, in terms of storage, the console comes packed with 256GB onboard storage.
As for the dock, it is now confirmed that it does support 4K HDR output. Nintendo has also included a fan in the dock to keep the console cool while it is running.
Nintendo also spent a lot of time on the console’s new “C” button and confirmed that it is used for all the social features. With it, users can open up a social tab, start chats, share screens and even have video chats with users using the new webcam.
We are still learning a bit more about the console as the information comes out. The Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on 5 June.
