Nintendo Switch 2 Has a Battery Charge Display Issue But There’s a Fix

The Nintendo Switch 2 recently launched to over 3 million units sold on its first day, setting new records as the most-sold console ever in a 24-hour period. However, with every console launch, users can expect one or two kinks that still need to be ironed out such as the next-gen console lacking a working YouTube app (for now). However, several owners are now reporting that the console also has a battery charge display issue. Luckily, there’s a quick fix for this.

Some Nintendo Switch 2 owners have reported that the console’s battery display isn’t correctly registering just how much battery life it has left. Many claimed that even after a full charge and only playing on the Switch 2 for an hour, it would show that the battery was nearly empty. Other owners’ consoles showed that there was still adequate battery life left – almost fully charged – despite extensive usage of the console for hours.

Nintendo has come out to offer a quick fix to this problem via the Switch 2’s secret Recovery Mode. Follow these steps:

  • Confirm that you’re using an adequately powerful AC adapter to charge your console
    • The Nintendo Switch AC adapter (Model HAC-002) can be used to charge the Nintendo Switch 2 when plugged into the console directly. Due to power output differences, it cannot be used to charge the Nintendo Switch 2 when docked.
  • Make certain that your Switch 2 has the latest system update
  • Power off your Switch 2 completely
  • Press and hold down the volume up (+) and volume down (-) buttons, then press the power button once to turn the system back on
  • Keep holding down the volume buttons until the menu for Recovery Mode appears
  • Power off the console again by pressing and holding the power button until it turns off
  • Power the console back on

If you’ve followed these steps correctly, this should reset the console battery and begin displaying the correct battery indicator. An update will likely arrive in the near future to remedy this issue but for now, this quick fix does seem to work, according to users.
