Yesterday, Nintendo officially announced the Nintendo Switch 2, its next-gen console and successor to the original Switch. Details are still scarce on the console including which games will be making their way to the library, though a new rumour suggests that Microsoft, more than any other company, is working on a lot of games for the Switch 2.
The rumour comes from leaker PhBrazil who claims, “I won’t go in details yet, but out of all companies I’m aware that are making Switch 2 games, the largest list of confirmed games is from Microsoft. Literally there’s more games from Microsoft for Switch 2, that I know of, than any other company, it’s a LOT of stuff, A LOT.”
Microsoft already has a good relationship with Nintendo so the fact that we might see several Xbox games appear on the Switch 2 makes sense. This also lines up with Microsoft’s new multiplatform strategy to start bringing over several big Xbox first-party titles to other platforms. Rumours claim that the likes of Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Gears of War Ultimate Edition could be heading to PS5, so there’s a good chance they may be ported over to Switch 2 as well.
In other news, Nintendo will reportedly host a new Nintendo Direct showcase next month that will focus on Switch 1 games, despite the Switch 2 recently being announced. A follow-up Direct will take place on 2 April where Nintendo plans to take a deeper dive into its next-gen console. Hopefully this is also the event where we find out the console’s official pricing and release date.
Nintendo is also bulking up its supply chain so that it’s prepared to sell 20 million Switch 2 units in its first year. This will avoid situations where stock will be unavailable in retailers or more unethical scalping ordeals, similar to what happened during the launch of the PS5 in 2020.
