Nintendo Switch 2 Hall Effect

Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons Don’t Include Hall Effect Sticks

Early rumours of the Nintendo Switch 2 claimed that the console might have implemented Hall Effect sticks in order to counter the various drift issues that plagued the original console. Nintendo had a rough battle with the Switch Joy-Con drift, which even led to mass lawsuits in certain regions. While Hall Effect would have avoided that on the Switch 2, Nintendo has not included the tech in the new controllers.

Speaking to Nintendo Life during the recent Switch 2 Experience event, Nintendo says there are no Hall Effect sticks in the Switch 2 Joy-Cons. The company claims the new controllers have been designed from the ground up, but they don’t include anti-drift Hall Effect sticks.

Nintendo says the Joy-Con 2 sticks are different from the original sticks. They now include new sensors that are more robust than the original sticks and they “feel really good”. The company also confirmed that the Switch 2 Pro Controller also has the same newly improved sensors in them, but not Hall Effect.

One thing Nintendo has stated is that the Pro Controller is said to be incredibly quiet. There’s little to no noise on the analogue sticks and buttons.

Of course, no Hall Effect does mean that the Joy-Con 2 might suffer from drift somewhere down the line, but with the console’s launch on set for June, we’ll have to wait and see just how much wear and tear these sticks have in them before showing signs of drift.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on 5 June. The console starts at R12,499 in South Africa. Catch up on all our pre-order and pricing information here.
