We’ve all been there before: we’re about to boot up the Nintendo Switch when we suddenly realise that one of our Joy-Cons is missing. Given the small form factor of the controllers, it would be pretty easy to lose them in a couch or under some blankets. Nintendo implemented a Joy-Con finder feature in the original Switch that when activated from the console, the Joy-Con will start vibrating so you can locate it easier. However, the Nintendo Switch 2 is taking this a step further by adding a beep to them.
As reported by Lowyat, the Switch 2 has improved the ‘Search for Controllers’ feature from the original Switch by making one crucial adjustment: the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons will now beep as well as vibrate once you activate the finder. Vibrations are helpful but in the event that your Joy-Con is in another room for some reason, you won’t really be able to hear the vibration properly from another room. With a beeping sound, it will now be much easier to hear and locate the missing controller.
It seems like the Switch 2 is implementing a bunch of quality of life improvements to make the console more user-friendly, including detachable magnetic Joy-Cons (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost damaged my original Switch controllers from sliding them back into place), a smart battery charging feature and a generally sturdier build for the console. If you want a more in-depth breakdown of the Switch 2’s specs and performance, read more over here.
If you want to customise your Switch 2 Joy-Cons, Nintendo is finally allowing users to switch out cover plates on the controllers. No specific details were shared yet about this feature but we should learn more closer to the console’s launch in the coming weeks.
Nintendo Switch 2 launches on 5 June 2025.
