Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 has surpassed 3.5 million units sold within its first four days on the market. We reported this week that Nintendo was aiming at about 3 million units in launch day sales, but this wasn’t confirmed at the time.
The company shared the official sales report from last week’s historical launch, confirming that 3.5 million units were sold worldwide in the four days following its release on 5 June.
According to Nintendo, this marks the highest global sales for any Nintendo console to date. Of course, Nintendo won’t compare these numbers to other consoles, but if we look at the stats, the Switch 2 is, in fact, the fastest-selling console in history.
The closest numbers to that of the Switch 2 come from the PS5, which sold 3.4 million units in one month and 4.5 million in two months. The PS4 managed to sell 1 million units in 24 hours, while the original Nintendo Switch console sold 2.7 million units in one month.
These Switch 2 sales cover the Mario Kart World console bundle, the Japanese Switch 2 console unit, and the multi-language console unit.
So the Nintendo Switch 2 has broken records and set quite a high bar for future console releases. In a statement, the company says that it will continue its efforts to deliver unique entertainment that puts smiles on the faces of everyone Nintendo touches.
