South Africans will have to start saving if they want to pick up the Nintendo Switch 2 in June when the console launches locally. Along with the console’s price, Nintendo has revealed how much you’ll pay for additional accessories and games in the country.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will start at R12,499 for the standalone console bundle and R13,499 for the Mario Kart World bundle. The Mario Kart World Bundle is identical to the standard console bundle except for the included code to download the digital version of Mario Kart World.
Accessories for the Nintendo Switch 2 also range from R799 for an additional charger to R2299 for an additional set of Joy-Con 2 controllers. If you want to make use of the Switch 2’s new video chat feature, you’ll need the Switch 2 camera that will cost you R1499.
The most important additional purchase, in my opinion, would be extra storage. Nintendo will be launching 256GB MicroSD Card Express cards alongside the console starting at R1499. At the moment, it seems the Nintendo-branded cards only come in 256GB; however, you’ll be able to use any version but make sure it is MicroSD Card Express. Standard cards are not compatible.
As expected, Switch 2 game prices have increased. Mario Kart World will cost you R1999 while Donkey Kong Bananza has been priced at R1799. The only pricing we don’t have yet is for the Upgrade Packs for existing games to be upgraded to the Switch 2 Editions. We have reached out to Nintendo to confirm this.
