Nintendo Switch Online Gets Three New Mario Classics This Week

Nintendo is adding three classic Mario games to the Nintendo Switch Online service this week. Starting tomorrow, 12 March, Switch owners with an active subscription can download Dr Mario, Mario Golf and Mario Tennis.

Keep in mind that these games are the classic Game Boy versions. Dr Mario is on Game Boy while Mario Golf and Mario Tennis are both Game Boy Color games.

Dr Mario is the first edition of the game which was released back in 1994 on NES and later ported to Game Boy in 1997. It is a classic and even features black, white and grey pills due to the lack of a colour screen on the Game Boy.

Mario Golf was then launched in 1999 and was quite an ambitious handheld game for its time. It even features its own story mode where players can choose from one of four characters and develop their skills through a series of tournaments.

Mario Tennis is then the 2001 Game Boy Color game which features a similar RPG-lite component. However, unlike modern Mario sports games which focus on over-the-top power-ups and charged attacks, Mario Tennis from 2001 was a simplified tennis game.
