Why Nintendo Switch Was a Game-Changing Console

Nintendo Switch System Update Slightly Tweaks Interface to Match Switch 2

Nintendo has released a new system update for the original Switch which makes slight tweaks to the interface to match the Switch 2 ahead of the console’s arrival next week. The latest update is much smaller than the 20.0.0 update launched last month, though it brings some interesting audio and visual changes to bring it more in line with its successor.

As detailed by Nintendo in update 20.1.0’s patch notes, the system update is available right now and makes some small tweaks and changes to the console’s layout. Notably, the Parental Control settings button has now been changed from orange to red. In terms of audio changes, the sound that plays when launching the Nintendo Switch Online menu will now be the same sound you hear on the Switch 2. On top of that, Nintendo also made general stability improvements.

The full patch notes read:

  • Visual updates have been made to the Parental Control settings.
  • The sound that plays when Nintendo Switch Online is launched from the HOME Menu has been changed.
  • General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

Note: If performing a system transfer from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2 using local communication, the Nintendo Switch console will need to be updated to this latest system version to perform the transfer. See System Transfer from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2 for more information.

The last note is important as the original Switch will need to have update 20.1.0 installed in order to do a system transfer to Switch 2 if you’re using local communication.

Nintendo is taking extra precautions to avoid early adopters of the Nintendo Switch 2. A mandatory day-one firmware update will be required to actually use the console and since it’s not technically out yet, those who somehow managed to get their hands on a unit before release won’t be able to use it until 4 or 5 June.
