Nintendo has left fans eagerly waiting for the Switch 2 Direct later today after it confirmed the existence of the mysterious “C” button on the console. This button has been in the news quite a lot recently as the C button didn’t appear in the original console reveal back in January.
Instead, Nintendo decided to leave the button blank. The C print on the button then first appeared in some of the official marketing for the console alongside the Nintendo Today! news app, which didn’t launch in South Africa.
The company then posted the first-ever official footage of the button in action in a quick teaser video on social media. The video includes a close-up of the button and someone pressing it. The most interesting part of this teaser is definitely the sound it makes. There’s a sort of digital trumpet sound that is triggered when you press it.
This C button on the Switch 2 likely has some major importance on the console. The sound you’re hearing in the teaser is also very likely the sound it will play when you press it. We don’t know what its function is, but some reports claim it has some sort of social mechanic. Perhaps it launches the Switch 2’s chat system or “connect” tab in some way or another.
Regardless, Nintendo will tell us all about it later today. The official Switch 2 reveal Direct kicks off at 15:00 SAST this afternoon. You can watch it live on the Nintendo UK YouTube channel. Find out more about the event here.
