The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally out and early adopters are going through their libraries of games to test which titles have benefitted the most from the improved hardware. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, being one of the highest-selling games of the original Switch, was naturally going to be one of those test subjects. However, Nintendo is now warning players that using Mii Fighters on Switch 2 could potentially break your game and cause matches to instantly end.
X user OatmealDome discovered that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has compatibility issues on the Nintendo Switch 2. If a Switch 1 and Switch 2 player face each other online and either of them is using a Mii Fighter, it will cause the match to instantly end. Additionally, it seems like Mii Fighter thumbnails aren’t being saved correctly either.
As reported by VGC, Nintendo’s official Japanese support page warned players about this specific issue and urged them not to use Mii Fighters until a patch can be released in the near future. Thankfully, this problem doesn’t seem to affect any other character in the game’s massive roster so feel free to Sephiroth your way to victory.
Nintendo updated its Switch 1 compatibility list to reveal that out of 15,000 third-party games, 98% of them were found to have no issues running on Switch 2. In fact, many of them were shown to have improved performance. However, a first-party game like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate having this glaring issue is a slight oversight, so fans will just have to wait for a patch to arrive (Nintendo hasn’t revealed when it will be patched out).
In related news, a GameStop in New York has been put under the spotlight after it was discovered that employees had accidentally stapled receipts to the Switch 2 boxes that penetrated the cardboard and damaged the console’s screen. GameStop has issued replacements for all the affected consoles, though we imagine it came at quite a cost.
