The brand new trailer for Nioh 2 dropped at the Tokyo Game Show last night and it is filled with bosses and mythical Yokai. According to the PlayStation Blog, the Nioh 2 is playable at the expo this week and set for an in early 2020 release date on PS4.

The demo will see players enter the Village of Cursed Blossoms which acts as the opening level for Nioh 2. It is an “amalgamation of natural beauty and menacing peril”, a theme found throughout the upcoming action RPG.

Tom Lee, Creative Director at Team Ninja revealed he had always wanted to work on an area in a video game set in Japan and covered by cherry blossoms in full bloom.

Lee also explained the process of adding Yokai creatures into the game saying;

When choosing new Yokai to implement, we go far beyond simply choosing the most popular or well-known versions. Instead, we meticulously select each creature based on their unique characteristics to effectively complement specific integrations. This approach ensures a wide range of variation and scope, which is super important in keeping players engaged and challenged!

As for the new Nioh 2 trailer, it shows off some intense battles, a glimpse at some of the Yokai you will be able to summon and the intense boss fights including a giant rat with swords for arms and its tail.

While there is no set release date for Nioh 2, the trailer revealed the game will release in “early 2020″ on PlayStation. The first game released in February 2017 so if that is anything to go by, we could see the game drop by the end of March 2020.
