Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have announced Nioh 3. The latest instalment in the dark fantasy action RPG is set to launch in 2026, but you can test out the game now during a limited-time demo.
The demo is an “alpha” build of the game and is exclusively available on PS5. You have until 18 June to play the demo before it gets delisted from the PlayStation Store and the alpha servers are taken offline.
Team Ninja says that Nioh 3 follows the traditional action RPG we have come to love from the series. However, the game is also getting new mechanics such as Arts Proficiency and a Deflect ability that lets you block enemy attacks at the last moment to deal counter-attacks.
Nioh 3 revolves around two combat styles: Samurai and Ninja. Players can switch between them on the fly in order to adapt their combat approach for each encounter. Team Ninja says that Nioh 3 is completely playable by sticking to one style so you can adapt or master one stance.
Nioh 3 has also gone open-world, where players can explore what the studio says are “open fields” designed with freedom of exploration and unique encounters and confrontations. The game will also include the Crucible, which sounds like the arena mode from the Nioh 2 DLC.
We don’t have a set date for Nioh 3’s launch yet, but publisher Koei Tecmo says we’ll see it in 2026. So perhaps early next year. Both the original Nioh, Nioh 2, and the combined remastered games on PS5 launched quite early in their respective years.
