Nintendo has confirmed that the video game studio is not working on DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. In an interview with Famitsu, game producer Eiji Aonuma has ruled out future content for the game and confirmed Nintendo is moving onto a brand new Zelda title instead.
While there are virtually no details on whatever this new Zelda game is, Aonuma hasn’t ruled out returning to The Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom world just yet. However, he hasn’t confirmed anything either. He did state he thinks it is going to be a completely new game.

While fans were hanging onto the hopes that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom would get DLC, that isn’t the case. Nintendo did work on DLC for Breath of the Wild back in the day but it wasn’t story-related content. It seems the studio feels as if they have squeezed all the fun out of the world possible.
“There are no plans to release additional content this time, but that’s because I feel like we’ve done everything we can to create fun in that world.”
When discussing the potential of a third game set in the same world, Aonuma said if a new reason arises, he would return to the same world again but he thinks it will be a new game instead.
“In the first place, the reason I decided to make this a sequel to the previous work was because I thought there was value in experiencing a new game in that Hyrule place. If that’s the case, if a new reason arises, we might return to the same world again. Whether it’s a sequel or a new work, I think it’s going to be a completely new game, so I hope you’re looking forward to it.”
Nintendo seems content with Tears of the Kingdom and they should be. The game sold close to 20 million units within its first month of sales. There’s been no sales update since June but this number has likely doubled. It will definitely outsell Breath of the Wild which sold 30.6 million units to date. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is likely one of the best games of 2023. We gave it a 10/10. Read our full review here.
