Final Fantasy XVI doesn’t currently have any post-launch DLC plans, says Square Enix. According to the game’s producer Naoki Yoshida, it’s meant to be a one-off game and contain a complete experience for fans. However, while there aren’t any plans at the moment to make DLC, Yoshida added that the team might consider it if there’s enough interest.
Speaking to Game Informer in a recent interview, Yoshida spoke about the post-launch efforts for Final Fantasy XVI. Apart from mentioning that the studio believes the game is well-polished to the point where it won’t even need a day one patch, Yoshida also stated that DLC isn’t in the pipeline (or any kind of post-launch content) at the moment. Plans might change, of course, but it sounds like Square Enix wanted to deliver a content-packed experience in the base game.

Yoshida’s full comment on post-launch plans for Final Fantasy XVI reads:
“It’s a one-off game. We’re asking players to pay the full price for this experience, and so we want an experience that’s going to equal the amount of money that players are going to be paying and we want them to have satisfaction equal to what they paid or even more than that.”
Yoshida further explained that the studio wants to first see the reception of the base game and whether fans gel with it before it doubles down on DLC or new content:
“We have no idea if people are going to fall in love with Valisthea and fall in love with Clive’s story and want to see more of the world and more of its characters. So while we always want to consider DLC or spinoffs or those types of things where you can learn more about the game, first we want to see if Valisthea and Clive are really things players around the world want to see more of and then make that decision.”
Final Fantasy XVI launches on 22 June 2023 exclusively for PS5.
