Developer Larian Studios says it currently has no plans for DLC or a sequel to Baldur’s Gate 3. In fact, the company aims to move away from the Dungeons & Dragons IP entirely and create something new, which has been received warmly by fans of the studio and Divinity: Original Sin 3 dreamers.
Speaking at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) yesterday, Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke revealed that the company had no plans to release expansions, DLC or make a fourth Baldur’s Gate game, leaving the Dungeons & Dragons IP in the hands of Wizards of the Coast. This is surprising considering the enormous critical and financial success of Baldur’s Gate 3, which went on to sweep several awards shows over the past few months including The Game Awards where it took home Game of the Year and other wins.
It’s worth noting that Larian Studios has never mentioned that more substantial content was on the way for Baldur’s Gate 3 in the past, apart from the usual updates and patches. It’s hard to predict if there will be a “definitive edition” version of the game at some point in the future either, though given what Vincke said at GDC, it’s possible that the game will be left as is with most of its big changes coming in the form of updates to the current release rather than expanded story content.

In related news, Baldur’s Gate 3 recently received the hotfix 22 update across PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC that made slight improvements to certain dialogue bugs, UI changes and of course, more fixes for Minthara.
