Back 4 Blood N-Word

No, The Zombies Aren’t Saying The N-Word in Back 4 Blood

If you played the Back 4 Blood beta this past weekend and came into contact with any one of the many zombies lurking through the stages then your ears aren’t deceiving you. The undead, also known as Ridden in the game, do talk. However, what they are saying is currently up for debate as many gamers believe the Ridden run around saying the N-word.

Videos surfaced online containing gameplay from the Back 4 Blood beta where players have recorded the Ridden mumbling a word that sounds very similar to the N-word. This was also not isolated to one case and actually happened a number of times. When a standard Ridden enemy comes running at you, sometimes they growl and the sound makes an N-word noise.

Listen to it down below and judge for yourself. While it is hard to hear what the Ridden is saying, it is also tough to ignore what he could be saying.

WB Games has released a statement saying that the Ridden growl in Back 4 Blood is not what it seems. According to the publisher, there is a bug in the game whereas two sounds play on top of one another. This output then causes the foul word to be said while a Ridden runs at you trying to pull your skin off your face. The statement reads:

“Our team has been made aware of offensive language that can be heard when playing the game. This was not recorded or ever intended to be part of our gameplay. The audio is a result of two different Ridden growls that are playing simultaneously and when heard together sound like that word. We are working diligently to fix this issue, which should be completed either in time for the Beta, or when the game launches.”

It is also important to note that even though the sound does come across like the N-word in Back 4 Blood, the sounds you hear are simply growls that happen to play in a certain way. Honest mistake it seems.
