Robert Eggers, the writer and director behind 2024’s critically acclaimed horror Nosferatu, is making a werewolf movie for his next project titled Werwulf. Eggers has made a name for himself in the horror genre since 2015’s The Witch which was followed by The Lighthouse and The Northman. He received critical acclaim for last year’s Nosferatu remake and now has his sights set on telling an old-school werewolf story set 700 years in the past.
As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the next movie from Robert Eggers is simply titled Werwulf. It will be set in 13th century England with dialogue true to the time period, though the report mentions that it will have “translations and annotations for those uninitiated in Old English.” The script is co-written by Sjón, who helped Eggers co-write The Northman. Focus Features, Universal’s art house division which financed and distributed Nosferatu, will return for Werwulf.
The movie is set to release on 25 December 2026 – a pretty opportune time considering Nosferatu also released on Christmas last year and ended up becoming a box office hit. Thanks to Nosferatu, Eggers also seems to have grown his fanbase quite a bit, so Werwulf is now a highly anticipated title for many looking forward to the director’s take on werewolves.
