Nosferatu South Africa Release Date Limited January Ster-Kinekor

Nosferatu is Getting a Very Limited Release in South Africa This Month

Nosferatu, the latest vampire horror movie from The Witch director Robert Eggers, is getting a very limited release in South Africa. While the movie already received a release date of 25 December (Christmas) in other countries last year, South African audiences will have to wait just under a month to catch the critically acclaimed movie – assuming you’re within the vicinity of only three movie theatres in the country showing it.

Ster-Kinekor is the cinema chain you’ll want to go to if you’re planning to watch Nosferatu in South Africa. It’s currently listed with a release date of 17 January 2025. Unfortunately, screenings for the movie are quite limited. As of writing, Ster-Kinekor’s website only lists three locations that you can watch it: Rosebank Nouveau and Brooklyn Commercial in Gauteng and V&A in the Western Cape. You can secure your bookings right here.

It’s worth noting that bookings on Ster-Kinekor’s website don’t seem to offer beyond 23 January so it will seemingly be in cinemas for one week only. Something similar happened back in 2023 with Godzilla Minus One, though the Japanese monster movie was available to watch in a lot more cinemas nationwide and for a slightly longer period of time. Those hoping to catch Nosferatu in other South African cinema chains will only have one to choose from, though we’ll keep you updated in case it appears elsewhere.

Nosferatu released last year to very positive reviews, with many calling it one of the best movies of 2024. It currently holds an 85% approval rating on the review aggregate website RottenTomatoes with a 74% approval rating from audiences. Over on IMDB, it holds a 7.7/10 average rating from over 50,000 user ratings.

The plot description for Nosferatu reads, “A gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake.”
