We all know that NVIDIA is working on its 50-Series gaming GPUs powered by the company’s Blackwell architecture. The components are already available for business and enterprise markets, and have been used to power many AI developments around the world. However, gamers who are waiting to see this tech in action in their PC rig are going to have to wait a bit longer. NVIDIA says Blackwell production won’t ramp up until Q4.
In the latest financial update, NVIDIA boasted a record $30 billion quarter for Q2. Most of this revenue, $22 billion exactly, came from its data centre and enterprise division. In the report, NVIDIA says that mass production of Blackwell won’t start until Q4 which is when the company will kick off gaming GPU manufacturing.
Of course, we don’t know when these new GPUs will arrive. If NVIDIA starts producing them in October, the company could be aiming for a holiday 2024 release. We also don’t know what the release lineup looks like at this point. Will NVIDIA pull another 40-Series launch and only make the 5090 available or will the company offer lower models?
It is also important to note that these Blackwell 50-Series GPUs are likely going to cost a lot of money. NVIDIA has stated in the past how expensive the data centre models are to make. While these include more advanced tech, the gaming range still won’t come cheap. One thing is clear right now, NVIDIA is enjoying the profits from AI and has put gaming on the back burner while the company rakes in the money.
NVIDIA has already confirmed it is working on a new “Rubin” architecture as the successor to Blackwell. The company will roll this out slowly in 2025 but it will again only be available in data centre models. With so many advancements in AI, we don’t know where NVIDIA will take gaming, or in fact, when.
