Obsidian Admits That Outer Worlds is The Fallout-Like Game People Want

The upcoming release of Outer Worlds is looking great. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, the team that brought you Fallout: New Vegas, the game is everything Fallout is no longer and the developers know this.

Speaking with Game Informer in regards to the backlash of Fallout 76, Obsidian’s CEO Feargus Urquhart believes that fans are using their upcoming game to attack Fallout 76. Urquhart says that they in no way knew that their announcement of their game would line up with the release of Fallout 76 and all the negativity surrounding the game.

“People even said things about our trailer: ‘Oh man, just slamming it home to Bethesda!’ because we said the original creators of Fallout and makers of Fallout: New Vegas. We have storyboards from July that said that. I have no ill will for Bethesda, I love playing Fallout games… We’re not fighting for the same dollars.”

Urquhart added that the team really enjoyed making Fallout: New Vegas and people enjoyed the game. He added that Bethesda is moving in a different direction with the Fallout series and he believes there is nothing wrong with that. However, Urquhart does believe that people enjoy where Fallout was and that is is what they wanted to do with Outer Worlds.

“Maybe that’s a bad decision from the standpoint of the number of people that will buy it. I don’t know… People seem to really enjoy what Fallout: New Vegas was, so let’s give them an experience that’s as similar as we can to that.”

Outer Worlds is set for release sometime in 2019 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Check out the reveal trailer below;
