Obsidian Apologises For Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Performance Issues

Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition launched this week and marked the first native version of the game available on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, by the look of things, it would be best for players to stick to the last-gen versions of the game as this “Spacer’s Choice Edition” is a hot mess. Since its launch on Tuesday this week, the game has come under fire for not only its shoddy upgrade path but also its terrible performance issues.

Players across all platforms including PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC have been complaining about the inconsistent performance across the game. According to players, there are substantial frame rate issues plaguing Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition. On PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the game runs at 40fps on the so-called “60fps performance mode”. In the quality mode, the frame rate drops down to 20fps and spikes back up to 31fps causing stuttering across the board.

Performance issues on PC are also present. The game’s inconsistent frame rate is causing headaches for gamers on Steam. Keep in mind that this Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition is a paid upgrade and in most cases, players have had to purchase the entire game again if they only owned the base version of the original release with no DLC. There’s no way to upgrade your standard edition game unless you have purchased DLC.

Since the issues went live, Obsidian has responded to them across Twitter and Reddit. A post claims that the team at Private Division is working on a patch for the game which should fix the bugs. Not sure how the game made it out of QA testing in the current state though.

I am sorry that you all have been experiencing performance issues with The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition. I understand how frustrating this can be, and I assure you the team at Private Division is working on getting a patch out as soon as possible. When we have more information about that patch we’ll be sure to let folks know. If you run into any other issues while playing the game, please feel free to submit a support ticket to Private Division. They are the dedicated support for The Outer Worlds, and we’re doing our best to funnel all of the information to them, so they can find solutions as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience and understanding!
