Avowed, the upcoming fantasy RPG from developer Obsidian Entertainment, might be pushed back to 2025 after initially being announced to release this year. Microsoft has yet to announce an official release date for the anticipated game, though a new report claims that it’s being delayed due to a “busy schedule” for Xbox Game Pass in the fall as well as the launch of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl.
According to The Verge, Microsoft is apparently delaying Avowed to make room for its busy fall schedule which includes Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in October and STALKER 2 in November. The report notes that Avowed is still in pretty good shape and there’s seemingly nothing to be concerned about regarding the delay – it’s simply a date reshuffle. Windows Central corroborated the report after receiving similar information about the game being delayed.
Xbox has another major exclusive, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle from Wolfenstein developer MachineGames, set to release this December. It’s unclear if that will also be delayed to 2025. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 isn’t an Xbox exclusive though Microsoft now has complete marketing rights for the annual shooter franchise which could be a big factor in the delay. STALKER 2, on the other hand, will only launch on Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Obsidian Entertainment has already shown off quite a bit of gameplay for Avowed. Like most Bethesda RPGs, Avowed can be played in both first and third-person. Back in June following the Xbox Games Showcase, Obsidian accidentally listed a release date of 12 November 2024 for the game before quickly removing it. If the reports are accurate, then that date (or somewhere close) could be occupied by STALKER 2.
Avowed is in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass. In case you missed it, check out the latest exciting trailer from June.
