Of Course Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Has a Confusing Cross-Gen Upgrade Program

Trust 2K Games to screw up the upgrade system for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands. It all boils down to the extra charge on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S games through the publisher. As you know, 2K Games is one of the many companies now charging an extra $10 (R200) for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S games. If you buy the game on PS4 or Xbox One, you save a bit of money but have to pay an upgrade fee if you want to move that game over to PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. Because of this, many games have suffered from confusing upgrade programs, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands being one of them.

Sadly, there is no free upgrade for Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands from PS4 and Xbox One to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. If you buy the game on old-gen consoles, you are stuck with that version until you splurge the extra money for the upgrade. Unlike Borderlands 3 that allowed players to seamlessly upgrade, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands owners can’t.

This paid upgrade then causes issues for gamers who purchase the disc version of the game. If you purchase the standard edition disc version of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands on PS4 you can upgrade to the PS5 version at an additional fee. However, if you purchase the standard edition disc version on Xbox One, this version cannot be upgraded at all and you are stuck with it. You have to purchase the Xbox Series X/S game separately.

Thankfully, this restriction is only applied to the standard edition disc version on the Xbox One. If you buy the Chaotic Great Edition or the Next-Level Edition, you can upgrade your game. Mainly because these versions cost more and include the paid upgrade fee inside them. We just don’t know why the Standard Edition is locked and cannot be upgraded by paying like the PS5 version.

For those of you going for the digital version, you need to keep in mind the following too. The Standard Edition of Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands does not come with the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S version. You need to pay for the upgrade. So let’s break it down.
