Off The Grid is a Battle Royale by District 9 Director Neill Blomkamp

Gunzilla Games have teamed up with District 9 director, and South African-born filmmaker Neill Blomkamp to develop a new triple-A battle royale called Off The Grid. The project is a combination of work between Neill Blomkamp and Crysis writer Richard K. Morgan.

Off The Grid is a cyberpunk-styled third-person shooter set to release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC next year. Gunzilla Games says Off the Grid is also called OTG and takes place in the middle of a covert corporate war on a dystopian tropical island.

Players will get to choose between a handful of factions and enter 150-player skirmish battles. Off The Grid will also feature a PvE storyline with unique missions that include assassination and sabotage events that take place on the same map in real-time. So while you’re fighting other players, there are other activities you can complete along the way.

Neil Blomkamp says that every action that each player takes in Off The Grid will affect the gameplay. Different factions will gain more majority during the match and it will change the map and what appears across the island. Players will also be able to trade in-game items with other players and craft various weapons and parts.

Olivia Henriot, who previously worked at Ubisoft on Far Cry and the Assassin’s Creed series says that Off The Grid aims to reboot the battle royale genre.

With OTG, our ambition is not only to create the Battle Royale 2.0 by adding deep player progression, but to build an evolving world designed to take on a life of its own, changing in unexpected ways each time a player rejoins the game. With an innovative approach to the Battle Royale core session flow and a deep narrative experience, we add purpose to each element of the game, allowing players to revisit the OTG world repeatedly where there is always something new to find and explore, and for us to expand upon.

While there’s no gameplay to look at just yet, Gunzilla Games did release a teaser trailer. Check it out below. The game is expected to launch sometime in 2023 so expect gameplay in the future.
