Epic Games is introducing some big changes to the way it handles Battle Pass rewards and exclusive items and cosmetics in Fortnite. Going forward, players will have the opportunity to buy old Battle Pass cosmetics on the Item Shop if they missed grabbing them in a season. However, Epic added that they will only be available to purchase on the digital shop 18 months after they’ve become inaccessible.
In the past, players could acquire Battle Pass cosmetics and items in each Fortnite season by logging in routinely and completing challenges to earn V-bucks and other currency. However, if you missed a season with a particularly enticing cosmetic or item that you really wanted, it would be lost forever. Epic Games outlined the new changes in a recent site post, now allowing players to buy Battle Pass rewards 18 months after their seasonal availability or when the Battle Pass expires.
These include Outfits, Back Blings, Pickaxes, Emotes, Instruments, Decals, Wraps, Loading Screens, Banner Icons and more. In the Q&A section of the post, Epic added that there’s no guarantee that all items will be sold on the Item Shop after 18 months, though it will keep players updated on what will be available each cycle.
Epic Games explains:
“This change lets us continue investing in new and exciting Battle Pass rewards while enabling players down the road to also enjoy the content, including Outfits based on popular licensed characters. Battle Pass benefits stay the same: pages of unlockable rewards you can use across one or more Fortnite experiences. You’ll still be able to progress in the Battle Pass by playing any experience that grants XP!”
We can surely expect more licensed characters to make appearances in Fortnite, especially after Disney invested a hefty $1.5 billion in Epic Games to create a “connected universe” within the game. This hasn’t really taken shape yet but hopefully we’ll hear more about it soon.
