One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 Gear 5 Luffy New DLC

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 Adds Gear 5 Luffy in New DLC

Publisher Bandai Namco and developer Omega Force have announced the Character Pass 2 DLC for its action game, One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4. The pass will consist of three new downloadable content packs and adds a total of nine playable characters including the Gear 5 transformation of protagonist Monkey D. Luffy.

The first pack, titled “The Battle of Onigashima Pack”, contains “Onigashima Battle Luffy” and two other characters that have yet to be revealed. This version of Luffy can tap into his Gear 5 transformation when using special techniques. The first pack will be available this September, though Character Pass 2 for One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is already available to purchase right now.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 launched in 2020 while author Eiichiro Oda was still working on the Wano arc, meaning the game had to come up with its own game-original ending. Now that the Wano arc has officially wrapped up in the manga source material, The Battle of Onigashima Pack will hopefully conclude the arc more faithfully. Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation was the big moment in the Wano arc that’s currently being adapted in the anime, so this is perfect timing for the game.

As for the rest of the content packs, Bandai Namco hasn’t revealed when they will be released yet. However, each pack seems to contain three new characters which is a lot considering how many playable characters are already in the base game.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 more or less adapts the entirety of the One Piece story up until Wano, though it does exclude a number of massive arcs like Dressrosa (which can be experienced in full in Pirate Warriors 3). Hopefully the new content packs fill in the gaps and deliver a more definitive One Piece experience in video game format.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4 is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch. Check out the Character Pass 2 trailer below:
