Outriders Studio People Can Fly PS5 Shooter

Outriders Studio Might Be Developing Leaked PS5 Shooter – Report

Yesterday, we reported on the leak of a new, unannounced shooter currently being developed for PS5. With only a few seconds of the rough alpha footage to go by, there was hardly anything there that could’ve suggested which studio would be attached to it. Now, some new information indicates that it might be in development at People Can Fly, the studio behind Outriders and Bulletstorm.

The new details come from ResetEra user modiz who pointed out that a project codenamed RED was mentioned in People Can Fly’s financial report. As it turns out, the leaked footage (which has since been removed from the source as well as ResetEra) was also captioned RED. This makes sense given that the footage showed a sci-fi world which just happens to fit People Can Fly’s style.

At the time that People Can Fly’s financial report was published, RED was still in the conceptual phase of development. Given the developer’s portfolio, it makes sense that PlayStation would tap the studio to make an exclusive shooter. People Can Fly’s parent company is Epic Games, which is also a major Sony Interactive Entertainment partner.

PlayStation announced last year that it would be doubling down on the development of several live-service games based on both new and existing IP. A standalone multiplayer game based on The Last of Us is on its way, with reports of Sony working on a Horizon MMORPG as well. The gaming giant previously purchased Destiny developer Bungie, probably in an effort to bolster its live-service plans.

It’s possible that this leaked shooter is also a part of PlayStation’s ongoing plans for more live-service multiplayer titles. However, the head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios Hermen Hulst reassured PlayStation players that it will continue to develop strong premium single-player games as well. As with all reports, take this with a pinch of salt until we get official confirmation.
