Overwatch 2 Fortnite Crossovers Blizzard

Overwatch 2 Might Feature Fortnite-Style Crossovers

Overwatch 2 is just under a week away from its free-to-play launch and Blizzard Entertainment is already setting its sights on what comes next for the game. One idea Blizzard recently put forth was featuring brand crossovers similar to what Epic Games does with Fortnite, which is known for having plenty of collaborations with brands from across the entertainment world and beyond.

Speaking to Game Informer recently, Overwatch’s VP Jon Spector enthusiastically spoke about the potential of featuring big brand crossovers in Overwatch 2, citing Fortnite as a source of inspiration. Of course, Fortnite wasn’t the first game to feature brand crossovers but it’s certainly the most popular right now and given Blizzard’s forecast for Overwatch 2 reaching a much wider audience as a free-to-play title, this might be a clever way to increase the game’s lifespan.

Spector talked about potentially featuring Fortnite-style crossovers in Overwatch 2 at some point, stating:

“We’ve seen some really fun examples out there of games working with other brands or other games. I’m a big anime nerd myself. I think it’s super cool when I see Naruto appear in Fortnite. I don’t even play Fortnite, but that’s awesome. And as we look at the Overwatch 2 space, those are things that we’re interested in exploring. If and when we do that, one of our key values is to do it in a way that feels like a great fit for the Overwatch franchise.”

By the sounds of things, it’s not exactly set in stone at Blizzard yet and we still don’t have a clue about which brands will hop on board to be featured in Overwatch 2. Blizzard’s priority right now is launching the game and doing post-launch tweaks, but it’s good to hear that there’s some game plan going forward about creative collaborations that might make the sequel a more enticing offering than its predecessor.

Overwatch 2 launches on 4 October 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
