Huawei obviously doesn’t understand how the internet works. The company was caught faking photos it used to tease it’s soon-to-be-revealed Hauwei P30 Pro device. Turns out, the photos were not taken with the P30 Pro but were instead taken with a DSLR (which is short for digital single-lens reflex camera, and definitely not a mobile device).

One of the exciting new features the P30 Pro will come with is a periscope zoom camera, which will apparently allow zoom for up to 7 times. To tease the new feature before the new device is fully revealed, Huawei released a few images which purported to have been taken with the upcoming new smartphone. Unfortunately for Huawei, the internet has spies and investigators everywhere. It turns out the photos were taken with a DSLR and not with the P30 Pro.

To make an embarrassing situation even worse – it turns out, not only are the image not take with a P30 Pro, they weren’t even taken by Huawei itself. The images were found to be stock images and images that were part of photographers’ portfolios.

One of the images was even found to have been taken all the way back in 2009, which makes it nearly a decade old. And the fact that Huawei tried to pass it off as an image taken with its upcoming device, doesn’t look so great for the Chinese technology company.

This is not the first time either that Huawei has used fake images to promote its own products. It was also caught passing off DSLR photos as photos taken with the Huawei Nova 3 in a commercial last year.

In the age of information, it’s strange to see a huge company like Huawei be so sloppy with blatantly misleading its customers when it will so easily be caught out.

The Huawei P30 and P30 Pro devices are set to be unveiled at a special event in Paris on 26 March 2019.
