Pac-Man World Re-Pac, a remake of the fan-favourite PS1 platformer Pac-Man World, was announced at the recent Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase. Bandai Namco appeared at Anime Expo 2022 over the weekend to show off the first gameplay for Pac-Man World Re-Pac. According to the host, gameplay improvements will be made, specifically to the platforming. “Maybe sometimes Pac-Man would unfairly fall off of ledges,” said the host. “We’re fixing that.”

The gameplay also highlights two boss fights against Anubis and Toc-Man as well as some of the reimagined environments and levels. One new addition to Re-Pac is Mega Pac-Man mode, a form added to the remake that sees Pac-Man morph into a large ball resembling his traditional appearance from the classic arcade games.
Pac-Man World Re-Pac is a ground-up remake of the 1999 Pac-Man World that launched on PS1. After completing the game’s Quest Mode, players will unlock the original Pac-Man game.
Bandai Namco revealed that Ms Pac-Man will be removed from the game and replaced by Pac-Mom – a move that disappointed and confused fans. However, Ms Pac-Man isn’t actually a Namco creation as the character was created by Midway, who had been given the rights to make Pac-Man products in North America, and General Computer Corporation (GCC). As a result, every time Ms Pac-Man had been used by Bandai Namco, GCC would reportedly be owed royalties.
Pac-Man World Re-Pac releases on 26 August 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch. Check out the full gameplay presentation from Anime Expo provided by Bandai Namco below.
