PS5 owners can download Palworld right now. Announced during the PlayStation State of Play, Pocketpair has launched the popular monster-catching, gun-wielding game on the platform in 68 territories. However, if you’re in Japan, the game has been delayed indefinitely.
Due to the ongoing lawsuit between Pocketpair and Nintendo, the developer has decided to hold back on the launch in Japan until further notice. Pocketpair didn’t share specific details on the delay. In a statement, it said on X that the launch in Japan “has not yet been decided”.
Of course, the lack of a Japan launch could be due to anything. But at the moment there’s only one elephant in the room and that is the Nintendo lawsuit. It is unclear how and why this lawsuit would affect the PS5 launch. Perhaps PocketPair is simply playing things safe until more information is revealed about the case.
Last week, Nintendo hit the Palworld developer with a lawsuit claiming it infringed on patents. Pocketpair responded saying the case didn’t detail any specific patent infringement and the developer wasn’t sure why it had been brought up.
“We have received notice of this lawsuit and will begin the appropriate legal proceedings and investigations into the claims of patent infringement. At this moment, we are unaware of the specific patents we are accused of infringing upon, and we have not been notified of such details.”
