Palworld studio Pocketpair has confirmed that it has no plans to pursue live service or free-to-play models for the game. Palworld launched this year in early access on Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC, with reports of a PS5 version on its way. A full release for the game hasn’t been announced, though Pocketpair is reassuring fans that it plans to stick to a buy-to-play model and not shift it in any other direction to suit gaming trends.
Reports surfaced over the weekend that Palworld developer Pocketpair were still debating whether it would turn the game into a live service title or potentially go free-to-play. Palworld launched on Xbox via Game Pass but PC players had to pay $30 for the game along with Xbox players who wanted to own the title outside of Game Pass. Despite the price tag for early access, Palworld became a massive financial success, gathering millions of players in the span of a few weeks.
Pocketpair has come out to clarify that the reports stating that the studio was considering making Palworld a live service game were based on an interview that was conducted several months ago. “At that time, we were still considering the best way forward for Palworld to create a long-lasting game that continues to grow,” wrote Pocketpair. “We are still discussing this internally, as it is quite challenging to find the ideal path, but we have already decided that the F2P/GaaS approach is not suitable for us.” You can read the full statement below.
