Passkey Now Lets You Sign Into Your PlayStation Network Account Without a Password

PlayStation has rolled out passkey support for Sony Interactive Entertainment accounts. This means that once activated, you’ll be able to sign into your PlayStation Network account without a password. Keep in mind that Passkey works across devices including PS5, PS4, iOS, Android and the web.

Setting up a Passkey for your PlayStation Network account is fairly simple. You need to log into your PSN account here, head to Security settings and you’ll see “Sign in with Passkey”. Initially, it will state “Deactivated”. Once you enable it, your password will be disabled.

Upon activation, you won’t need to type in your password again when signing into your account. In addition, you won’t need two-factor authentication either. Passkey will use your platform’s security encryption to sign in. So if you’re on Windows, you’ll need your Windows password/pin. If you’re on iOS, it will use Face ID or fingerprint etc.

PlayStation isn’t the first platform to roll out Passkey support. Last year, Nintendo released support for Passkey letting users sign into their Nintendo Accounts without a password. It saves time and thanks to cross-platform support, if you set it up on your Mac, it will automatically carry over to your iPhone/iPad.

Passkey also comes with some safety advantages. Due to the lack of password linking, there’s no risk of phishing associated with the sign-in method. Also, if there were to be a security breach and your password gets compromised, it wouldn’t work when the hacker signs into your account due to the password being disabled and removed from your account.

You can find out more about Passkey here and enable it by visiting the Sony Interactive Account management page here.
