Path of Exile 2 won’t make its original November release date this month. The game has sadly been delayed by three weeks into December and is now expected to launch on 6 December. In the announcement video, Grinding Gears Games says the game development isn’t the reason for the delay. Rather, the team have to work on the server-side infrastructure and that is taking longer than expected.
Game director Jonathan Rogers says the team didn’t realise how much work was involved in making both games compatible with the new servers. The team are working to make sure the launch goes smoothly and no paid content is lost when the games transition over.
“It isn’t really the game itself that we’re behind on, it’s a bunch of server side infrastructure work that is taking us a lot longer than we expected. We have to get everything perfect so that nobody loses anything they paid for, and nobody has their account broken. I actually believe that we could possibly have made the original launch date. but I’m no longer confident we could do it without making mistakes.”
The good news is that Grinding Gear Games plans on releasing loads of content leading up to the launch. Players can expect big news at the end of November.
Keep in mind that Path of Exile 2 is launching into early access when it arrives in December. So the game won’t include all the content at the time. However, given the huge success of the original RPG, which also launched the same way, the sequel will likely follow. It is expected to release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC on 6 December.
In order to ensure a smooth launch, Path of Exile 2’s Early Access will be delayed for 3 weeks. The new date is December 6th PST. Statement from Game Director Jonathan Rogers below. pic.twitter.com/Bk8Ti8u94d
