People Are Breaking Their Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 By Trying to Change The Ear Tips

Samsung has revamped its Galaxy Buds 3 range with a whole new design. The AirPods-like design, which has been called the “blade design” at Samsung, boasts a number of improvements over the Buds 2. However, they seem to be a lot more delicate than before and a simple tug on the earpiece could break the plastic from the mould completely.

According to multiple users, removing the silicone earbud from the earphone has resulted in snapping the plastic latch right off the unit. Users on Reddit claim that when changing the silicone earpiece to a larger or smaller one, they have tried to pull off the existing set only to have the plastic ring come off too. Of course, this essentially snaps the plastic from the earphone itself and breaks the Galaxy Buds 3.

The earphone adopts the same latch mechanism as the AirPods where users would pull off the silicone piece from the ring and replace it with a larger or smaller seal. Each seal has small holes that form over the tiny nubs on the ring to seal the fit. It seems that when pulling off the existing piece, the nubs aren’t letting go and the force takes the plastic with it.

YouTuber Zuyoni Tech fell victim to this. You can watch it happen below:

One Reddit user also describes the incident they went through. Their ear tip tore off the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro when they tried to change out the silicone piece. Another user reports the same thing happening to the non-Pro Samsung Galaxy Buds 3.

Samsung’s Korean support page shows the “correct” way to remove the silicone earpieces. The tutorial says users should flip out the ear tip and gently detach it from the unit. It says to avoid using fingernails. The YouTube video above does have fingernails involved but it is still too early to point blame at either party. Samsung has yet to comment on the matter.
