Since the first Iron Man opened up the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the world in 2008, Pepper Potts (portrayed by Gwyneth Paltrow) has been at Tony Stark aka Iron Man’s (portrayed by Robert Downey Jr) side. As the secretary, turned CEO of Stark Enterprises and Tony’s bae, Pepper Potts has played an important role in the Marvel movies. Now, it’s been confirmed that Avenger: Endgame will be the last time Gwyneth Paltrow portrays the role of Pepper Potts.

After having played the role of Pepper Potts for over a decade, Gwyneth Paltrow is not thinking of reprising the role again after Avengers: Endgame, unless for a small appearance as a flashback or cameo. The Oscar-winning actress confessed that she considers herself to be lucky to have played the role of Pepper Potts, as she didn’t even want to portray the role in the first place. However, she thinks it’s time to say goodbye to the character.

I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point. I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friends with [Iron Man director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to fans.

With Pepper Potts not returning after Avengers: Endgame, it might spell the end for the Iron Man movies, too. Although she could always be killed off or written out, it’s hard to imagine an Iron Man movie without this awesome character.

The first trailer for Avengers: Endgame opened with Tony Stark trapped in a spaceship that’s running out of air, trying to record his last message for Pepper Potts. Take a look below.

Avengers: Endgame is going to be a huge movie, with so much unfinished business to tie up and with many of the main characters’ futures looking uncertain. Chris Evans has already Tweeted his goodbyes to his character of Captain America, whether this means forever or only for Avengers: Endgame remains to be seen. However, it is telling that he chose this moment to Tweet about how long he’s been portraying the role, and thanking everyone who’s been involved with it, as it does seem like a swansong to the character he’s portrayed for the past eight years.

Are you sad to hear about the departure of Pepper Potts after Avengers: Endgame? What do you think this means to the future of Iron Man? Drop a comment below with your theories.
