PES Goes eFootball and Free-to-Play on 30 September

Last month Konami announced that its long-running eFootball game, Pro Evolution Soccer (or PES) would be ditching its annual paid release and go free-to-play. The company has now announced a release date for this new adventure along with a post-launch roadmap and how exactly things are going to work.

First off, eFootball will launch on 30 September 2021 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, iOS, Android PC. Starting on 30 September, players can simply head to their digital marketplace and download the free-to-play football game.

Konami says that eFootball will get its first major free content update starting this spring/autumn. This includes over 600 licensed clubs, new match modes, new player types and more. They are also adding PS5 DualSense support to the game, an Edit Mode, Advanced ball tapping, Power Pass and other kicks, mobile controller support and cross-play at a later date.

Starting on 30 September, eFootball will launch with an Authentic Match mode where players can take control of popular teams and play against other players. There’s also Trial Matches which are offline games designed for players versus AI. Events are PvP matches that revolve around objective-based challenges.

There are also new modes arriving. One of which is the Creative Team mode that sounds like the money-making machine for the game.

Build your dream team and face off against users from around the globe. Sign players and managers that fit your chosen formation and tactics, and develop them to their full potential. In eFootball™ 2022 you’ll be able to target the signings you covet the most, and you can also develop the player as you see fit. This all means that when the final whistle is blown, it rests on your shoulders whether you step off the pitch winners or losers! So get out there and make your dream team a reality!

eFootball revolves around completing objectives. These are scattered across the various game modes and reward players with currency.

There are three types of currencies in eFootball. 

eFootball Coins – An in-game currency you can use to sign players and purchase Advantage Match Passes, among other items.
GP – An in-game currency you can use to sign players and managers
eFootball Points – In-game points you can redeem for player signings and items.

There are four types of players in eFootball

  • Standard:
    • Players are based on their performance during the current season
    • Player development: Yes
    • How to sign
      • eFootball™ Coins (Random)
      • GP (Nominated)
      • Chance Deal
  • Trending:
    • Players are based on a specific match or week in which they put an impressive performance during this season
    • Player development: No
    • How to sign
      • Nominating Contract
  • Featured:
    • Hand-picked players that are depicted based on their performance during the current season
    • Player development: Yes
    • How to sign
      • eFootball™ Coins (Random)
      • Chance Deal
      • eFootball™ Points (Nominated)
  •  Legendary: 
    • Players are based on a specific season when they had a stellar performance (This also includes retired players who had a brilliant career)
    • Player development:  Yes
    • How to sign
      • eFootball™ Coins (Random)
      • Chance Deal
      • eFootball™ Points (Nominated)

Konami says that players who currently own eFootball PES 2021 on mobile can carry over their progression to the new version of the game. They will need to simply update the app in order to do so.
